The materials used for offshore oil pipeline reinforcement mesh are primarily selected for their high strength and resistance to corrosion and the marine environment; high-strength steel wire or wire rope is the most common base material. When treated with galvanizing, aluminum-zinc alloy coating, or epoxy coating, these steels exhibit significantly enhanced resistance to seawater corrosion while maintaining the tensile strength required for high-pressure subsea environments.

 

For projects demanding superior corrosion resistance or intended for long-term service, stainless steel-such as 316L stainless steel wire mesh-is also employed. Inherently resistant to chloride ion corrosion, these materials are better suited for deep-sea or high-salinity environments; however, due to their higher cost, they are typically reserved for critical sections or areas requiring special protection.

 

Modern reinforcement meshes also incorporate composite material technologies-such as encasing the metal framework in polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), or epoxy resin coatings-to further improve resistance to corrosion, abrasion, and biofouling. Some designs utilize fiber-reinforced composites (e.g., glass fiber or aramid fiber) to reduce weight and enhance overall flexibility, allowing the mesh to better adapt to complex seabed topography.
